The Ultimate Form of Expression
(The story of an artist turned Subaru
car salesman/Coffee Roaster and a Free bag of coffee with every car sold!)
As
an art project I decided to sell cars. Most people who knew me (including
me!) didn't think I would last 3 months when I signed on at Dunning
Subaru in Ann Arbor, Michigan 3 years ago. As it turned out,
all my work previous to this prepared me to be a great Subaru sales
consultant.
From meeting and greeting, to needs analysis,
to problem solving, to creative thinking, to decision making, to
taking action, to closing and making a deal every connection or
sale included all the aspects of great art and drama. The comedy,
the tension, the fear, the pain, the sadness, the perception, the
reality, the hope and joy, of life imitating itself.
As an artist (visit Roosart.com)
I developed compatibility with others thru methods of expression.
From writing, to painting, to cooking, thinking or talking. I was
always searching for that nerve or a way of speaking the same language
with a world of people. As I worked harder and harder at making
beautiful art I came to the conclusion that what I did had no meaning
or substance unless it was connected to a world of people. It didn't
matter my form of expression or what I was making the connection
of a sale was the form of expression that made the art.
I quickly realized that an alter ego was necessary in order to be a super star of auto sales and that is when I fell back on my taste buds, a life long passion for coffee and over 20 years of cooking skills gained from working in kitchens all over the world. I had just returned from 7 years in Portland Oregon drinking Stumptown Coffee and another west coast favorites Peet's and was telling everyone that I wanted to start roasting coffee. But selling cars was really fun after dealing with Restaurants for so long. Before I knew it I was set up to roast and gifting every client who bought a car with a free freshly roast pound of Roos Roast Coffee!
