Due to the high volume of calls...

We will be available to fill your coffee orders at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market on Saturday September 6th. Pounds, half pound, Roos-Presso, (espresso) Lobster Butter Love, Rich French Neighbor, Organic Water Processed Decaf, and yes Darshan I will have Velvet Over-view.
I look forward to demonstrating the Areo-Press and getting good and wired all day.

Saturday should prove to be a wild ride with the growing popularity of buying local, the surprise of the presidential race, (While at Devils Lake, Ottawa last weekend with my new Canadian family I heard them comment on how boring their politics were compared to what we have going on in here in the great USA. [This stuff freaking me out!]) and the 1st Michigan home game in a stadium that looks like something out of the movie Brazil.

I have know idea where we will set up with the volume of sellers lining up at 5:00 AM but Molly will find a place for us and I will post a blog from my phone so you can find us fast and get on with your market day or football watching.

Go Blue

Small Business, Small Improvments

Sorry for such short notice but I'm doing a number of small business improvements which is why you're not seeing me at the Farmer's Market today.

If you have any questions about getting your coffee fix call me at 734-709-9565 or e-mail from the contact page.

In the meantime I'll be scrambling to get things going again.

Sorry for the inconvenience. When you do get some coffee sit down with a cup and check out Dissociatedpress.com (My buddy Ian Gray's work.) He tried stand up for awhile here locally but now he's focused on this. I hope you find it as amusing as I did.

I'll leave you with this good vibe picture of my nieces when they visited Roos Roast back in July.

Super shout out to Riley and Ella!

Stay tuned
Your faithful roaster of fine coffee John Roos

LOCAL FOOD PORN BLOG

Giving thanks for being so lucky to live in a town were you can eat food and know where it comes from everyday.

We tend to take for granted the fact that eating local is a reality here in Ann Arbor and in many cases beyond that "gourmet restaurant" experience can be had right at home because of the great ingredients all around us. I can remember visiting Ann Arbor 20 years ago and being hard pressed to find cilantro! Now we have it all because there is a demand for it because we want to, lower our carbon foot print, walk or ride our bikes with personalized re-use-able bags.

This fact is more apparent when you leave town on business or to get away and see some nature and the food options are on preservatives and so is your appetite.

I keep saying that I'm going to post my "Local Food Porn."
I'm dedicating these pictures to Kath Weider my beloved and comrade in amazing food, all the local people and farmers who continue to support and sustain and two of my great chef friends each of whom I've spent countless e hours in Kitchens in many beautiful places sharing the labor of love and Amazing food! Michael Schwartzand Kent Trebilcox

People always ask me why is Roos Roast so good? It's because I've been drinking and tasting coffee since I was 12 and I've been cooking professionally since I was 14 and now I'm... Well forget it. I've been around and I'm ready for more! Thank you for reading and your comments are welcome.

PS Don't miss Jeff McCabe's Motorized Bike Building Work-Shop on the 11th of August. Wasn't that rain nice today?
Your Chef and roaster John Roos
Dishes in order of pictures: Playing in the Kitchen, Scratch Organic Nicoise Pizza, Beets and Greens, Tempe Roll, Roast Chicken Caesar, Fresh made Pasta with Kath's Roast Egg Plant, True Greek Salad, New Pickles, Raw Beet Salad, and King Noodle Toronto.

The AeroPress !

Get the most out of your RoosRoast beans with this incredible coffee maker! The AeroPress is turning into my all-time favorite brewing technology--I can't believe the flavor of the coffee these things make. The AeroPress blends the immersion technology of the French Press with the fine grind of a drip method (it has a filter), and finally adds in the air pressure of an espresso-maker method. It makes a super smooth, super rich brew. It's perfect for the office, traveling or when you want an incredible cup of Roos without heating up the whole espresso maker. Read more about it here: AeroPress

Wild Week of Roasting

No, the roaster didn’t catch on fire. The exact opposite actually. And by roaster, I mean me, not the machine. I got drenched twice on the bike while delivering coffee, and we all got slammed at the farmers market on Saturday during a huge downpour. Sweaty, hot, and humid! But I’ve got to give it up to the hardcore Ann Arborites who are just that dedicated to buying local… the rain didn’t stop the sales or the excellent vibe. The market is a true microcosm of this town… a really great group of people selling to an even greater community.

Speaking of great people at the market, come on down and pick yourself up some of Grandma’s killer baked goods! My own Grandma passed in 1997 at the age of 93. We were very close and used to correspond by mail… I miss her. For whatever reason, if your own Granny isn’t able to serve up the cookies and milk, you’ve got a Grandma at the market every Wednesday and Saturday. Rain or shine, hot or cold, she’s there with homemade cookies, pies, and eggs. Check her out.

The latest development at Roosroast is the all new: "Starbucks De-programming Center" available on request at the market during slow times. (Please be ready to step aside when someone actually needs coffee with a quickness.) This re-programming/de-programming is based on a teaching technique developed back in the early 1990’s during my stint as a snowboard instructor in Breck and Vail, Colorado. (Summers were spent in the Columbia Gorge windsurfing and running my burrito truck, The Killer Take out Stand. Rough life, eh?) We often had to de-program people who had wild misconceptions about boarding, and used a combination of crude yoga moves, ecstatic dance, and two Jungle Brothers tunes to release our students from the inner boundaries of their office cubicle-filled minds. By the end of their all day lesson they were usually rocking down the entire mountain.

I realized the need for the Starbuck's De-programming Center today when someone at the market and ordered a “whole milk, extra hot, vanilla latte with 5 pumps and whipped cream.” I actually reached for the porta-filter and started making their drink, then realized I didn’t have an espresso machine, or any such mechanism to pump 5 times, nor whipped cream! Though I’m not going to be putting anyone in a yoga pose anytime soon, we can certainly talk about your coffee habit while I get you some simple but beautiful fresh roast.

Looking forward to more fresh veggies and all the fresh writing going on in the blog-o-sphere. Check out all the foodies by searching roos roast on the web.(for some reason the web address I tried to write a link to for Dianna Dyer didn't work?)
